Where I Live (or, Why Small Talk is Hard)

All the words and pictures
of the world
couldn’t tell the story
of the silence
that breathes
the emptiness
that expands
the skin
that disappears
the light
that shines blinding
the eyeless eye
that sees everywhere
even the void
of nothing

The bottom drops away
and I jump
out of my skin
that wasn’t there

And I laugh
and surrender
I was here,
and nowhere,
all along
